DOT issues Final Order. Awards five slot pairs to Delta for daily service between five U.S. cities and Haneda

On Aug 9, 2019, the Department of Transportation issued the Final Order to award Delta five new slot pairs for flights between Haneda Airport and Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Portland, Ore., and Honolulu.

Combined with Delta's existing Haneda service from Los Angeles and Minneapolis/St. Paul, these new routes will bring the total number of US routes to Tokyo Haneda to seven.

Five new US-HND routes expected to replace US-NRT service:

  • SEA-HND operated by Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.
Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.
  • DTW- HND operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.
  • ATL- HND operated by Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
Delta One Suites and the new Delta Premium Select cabin.
  • PDX- HND operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Delta One seats, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.
  • HNL-HND operated by Boeing 767-300ER.
Delta One seats, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.

These slot pairs will improve Delta’s ability to effectively compete in the US-Japan market.

In conjunction with the award of the Haneda slots, Delta will discontinue service from the five remaining daily Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Portland, Ore., and Honolulu flights to Narita.

The Award will result in the termination of the NRT-MNL and NRT-SIN operation. Delta will begin ICN-MNL at a later date.
Ending these routes will mark the end of a chapter in the history of Delta and Northwest by closing out the last remaining fifth-freedom Narita flights.
