Through ownership stakes (equity stakes), Delta gains control and access to tighter coordination. Equity can mean a seat on the board of directors, allowing for influence into how the partner runs its business. Equity stakes are often combined with joint ventures for sharing revenue. There is a potential for income as a shareholder and if this income is realized, it has to be reported, and would be available for profit sharing payout.
